Imperial Drones is the most recent solo project of Tomas Nazal, former guitar player, composer, and producer for Chilean Psychedel/Garage ensemble “Los Howlers” (BYM Records, Algo Records). The Seconds EP was recorded in New York through the winter of 2015 in a cold room in derelict Brooklyn, in a psychedelic haze of stimulants and inebriants. The album is a post-rock psychedelic orchestration in the line of the most recent Chilean international acts; it takes influence from Krautrock early representatives, alternative 70s punk acts like Suicide, Surf-Rock guitars, and contemporary, post-electronic artists like Tame Impala and Radiohead. All these influences are funneled through 6 songs of emotional, texture-rich, incidental-sounding landscapes that owe big in its composition to golden-era exotica and 60s movie music.
Although its influences can be savored when listening to Imperial Drones, the album as a whole sounds both futuristic and timeless, with a unique personality that resembles nothing in today’s music world.
